The gap comes from labour markets, not from clever maths

The calculator prorates the salary to your hours, adds overhead, and compares that with an offshore hourly rate. It does not price onboarding, supervision, or timezone overlap.

    Match the hours first

A local salary is prorated to the hours you actually need, so a 20-hour week is never compared against a 40-hour salary.

    Load the real employer cost

Base salary alone understates a local hire. We add employer overhead — payroll taxes, benefits, equipment, software, workspace — at 25% by default.

    Compare against an all-in rate

The offshore side is a single hourly rate covering sourcing, vetting, contracting, compliance, and payroll. No placement fee, no agency spread.

    Questions about the numbers

How does the VA savings calculator work?

It compares the fully loaded cost of a local hire against the all-in cost of hiring the same role offshore. Your local cost is the base salary plus employer overhead (payroll taxes, benefits, equipment, software, workspace), scaled to the hours you actually need. The offshore cost is the hourly rate multiplied by those same hours across 52 weeks, so both sides are compared on equal hours.

Where do the default salary numbers come from?

The defaults are typical US full-time base salaries for each role and are meant as a starting point only. Every field is editable, so replace them with the numbers from your own market, job posting, or payroll system for a result that reflects your business.

What is included in the offshore hourly rate?

The rate covers billable labor plus sourcing, vetting, interviewing, contracting, compliance, and global payroll management. There is no placement fee and no agency spread, so the hourly figure is what you actually pay.

    Is the estimate a quote?

No. It is an estimate based on the inputs you enter. Final pricing depends on role complexity, required skills, seniority, and how rare the skill set is. Request candidates to get a firm quote for your specific role.

Do offshore hires cost less because of lower quality?

The cost gap comes from the difference in local cost of living between markets, not from a difference in output. Candidates are vetted and interviewed for the same responsibilities the local role would carry, and replacements are free if the fit is wrong.
